1824  (1955)  In Bears River near the Lake they speared a kind of salmon he names Keth [sic] in the Rapids but not in quantities.
1933  Chums or keta are plentiful in all districts.
1962  Formerly known as dog salmon, the chum, with the scientific name Oncorhynchus Keta, has also been called the qualla, keta and calico salmon. It is caught all along the coast of British Columbia.
